Are you a qualified Health & Safety professional looking for a standalone role where you can make a real impact? We are working with a long-established manufacturing business based in Hull, who are looking for a dedicated Health and Safety Officer to oversee the HSE function across two sites; a large manufacturing site and a smaller storage facility, both in Hull.
This is a fast-paced and hands-on opportunity, perfect for someone who enjoys being out on the factory floor, working with machinery, employees and contractors, while driving continuous improvement across the organisation.
Reporting directly into the leadership team, you will be the company’s main point of contact for health and safety. With input from external insurers and consultants, you will take ownership of HSE policy, compliance and cultural development across the business.
What the Health and Safety Officer job involves
- Leading on all health and safety matters across two sites (manufacturing & storage).
- Carrying out detailed risk assessments and ensuring robust systems are in place.
- Managing contractors, reviewing RAMS and issuing permits to work.
- Conducting toolbox talks, inductions, and training to drive a safety-first culture.
- Investigating and reporting incidents and accidents, ensuring compliance with RIDDOR.
- Overseeing occupational health responsibilities and monitoring exposure levels.
- Ensuring safe use and management of machinery, PPE, COSHH and hazardous substances.
- Liaising external stakeholder, acting on their recommendations.
- Organising public liability cover for trade shows.
- Supporting the business in working towards health and safety accreditations such as ISO 18001.
About You
We are looking for a confident and proactive professional who can “hit the ground running” and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
You will need:
- A NEBOSH qualification, ideally with specific experience in manufacturing.
- Experience in a dedicated health & safety role.
- Energy, resilience and the ability to manage a standalone role.
- Excellent communication skills to engage employees at all levels.
Other information
- Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 5:00pm; Friday, 8:00am – 12:30pm (38.5 hours per week).
- 20 days holiday plus bank holidays.
